The Rising Sirens are in rehearsals for our first performance, upcoming on May 2nd, 2010 at Rakkasah Spring Caravan. We are very lucky to have as our company Director Kaeshi Chai, who secured the performance spot for us at the popular dance festival in Somerset, NJ. The Sirens will open up for Kaeshi’s professional company Bellyqueen, starting at 2:00 pm. Up until then we will be running our choreography again and again (and again and again), tweaking our timing, perfecting our posture, and of course getting ready to “dance like an Egyptian” in our pharaonic costumes, makeup and hair.
We will be dancing a Bellyqueen choreography to Natasha Atlas’ rendition of “I Put A Spell On You.” The sultry Egyptian vocalist adds some mid-east flavor to an American R&B classic originally written and recorded by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and made famous by jazz legend Nina Simone. The dance features hand-held candles, pharaonic postures, and lots of attitude that will leave the audience spell-bound. Cherrelle and Estefania will be adding their own special floorwork section to turn the volume up to 11
Stay tuned for more updates on our progress and preparations for the big show!
